Arizona boy, 12, found guilty of murdering Mom in argumentBy The Associated Press
SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. - A judge in Arizona has found a 12-year-old boy guilty of premeditated murder in the shooting death of his mother.
Because the boy was tried as a juvenile he can only be held until he turns 18.
Judge James Conlogue found the boy guilty Friday after a hearing in the southern Arizona town of Bisbee.
The case involved the death of 34-year-old Sara Madrid, who was shot eight times last August with a .22-calibre handgun after she and her son argued about his chores.
Authorities say the boy told police his mother yelled at him and sometimes slapped him. A defence lawyer argued that the boy did not intend to kill her, just get back at her for abusing him.
Sentencing is set for Jan. 23.
