Asda car Insurance

Been using Asda's car insurance for about the last four years or so.  18 year old daughter recently passed her test.  She can't really afford a car and all the costs entailed, and I aint buying her one (dangerous precedent to set with seven kids).

So, looked into adding her onto my insurance as my car doesn't really get used outside of work.

Asda refused to insure her at all because of her age.  Been phoning round and all the others are fine if not expensive (though we expected that).

Usual quote is about £280 for me and the wife, about £780 with daughter on.  Not too bad.  Bye bye Asda then, obviously don't want our money

We've actually gone a different route and got both our cars insured under one scheme with my wifes car having her and me on it and my car having me, my wife and our daughter on it.  All in for just £836.  Not bad at all.  This way the daughters share is only like £350, not bad for an 18 year old who has only just passed her test.

That is with Admirals multi car scheme thingy, I thought they were expensive but not too bad at all.

Gee whiz, that's a result there. I'd have thought the cost would have been phenomenal.

Did you think about a couple of pairs of roller skates?

Me too.  She had £1,700 saved up and out of that she was hoping to get a car, insurance and running costs etc.  It gutted her when I told her it would hardly touch the sides.

Bit of a catch 22 situation, if you get a car under a grand these days you're spending more money on repairs.  To me (though I could be wrong) you need to be spending £1,500 to get a decent banger that you wont have to get fixed up too often.

At least this way, she still keeps the bulk of her money and still has a car at weekends and evenings (and holidays too).

Thinking more long term it means we'll be able to go for a drink and not have to pay a fortune in taxis
