Budget

Does anyone else foresee future troubles of yesterdays budget – smart move by labour to give the cuts and do the borrowing now, fully knowing that it will be a successor government having to raise taxes to pay off the debt (in fact that has been included in the budget).  Also can you see the shops passing on the VAT reduction?  No me neither.
lil eva

From what i can gather, the VAT reduction was to get us out there spending to kick start the economy again The savings that we could make if the shops were to reduce the prices is minimal, even if we did have the money to go out and spend. It works out at 25p off a £10 item...........it's not really going to give us a lot more money to play with is it and we are going to suffer later when our taxes go up to pay this lot back.
Bravo

Same as last time they were in power, they screwed the economy up, then blamed the next government for the hard times sorting their mess out.

They arent the party of the working man thats for sure.

Actually, lil eva, if you do the maths it works out at about 21.3 pence...not 25. Sounds silly but it's true.
I can't see the point of that budget. He cut VAT by an amount which has no meaning (BTW he couldn't cut it any more because EU rules say he can't.) He then increases fuel duty, tobacco duty, alcohol and Nat. Ins. WTF is the point?
Whatever happens, NuLiebor have blown their chances of getting in at the next election. Just wait until this recession starts to bite.
Still, there's always some numpty will vote for them...I've got once such lives not too far from me...."I've always voted Labour cos they're for folk like me"......tw@!
Bravo

There are parts of the country where if you tie a red rag round a donkeys neck, the buggers will vote for it.

One of the downsides of democracy is the bloody idiots they give the vote to

changes are coming - i can think of a couple of yorkshire councils where labur have lost control in recent years, albeit to conservative/lib dem coalitions - and another that has gone from 60/63 labour councillors to 32 out of 63 - a majority of one!
Bremner4

all the ar**holes in my area always vote for them as well - my MP used to be the NUM delegate at the pit I worked at back i nthe 80's and he never did a full week's work there either.

And don't get me started on the fuel duty increase....

Rant over !

Bravo, I have always said that the Labour Party has never been the friend of the working man, or woman. It has always been the party of high taxation and as you have said; If you put a Monkey/Donkey up with a Red tie there are many people who would vote for them just because they purport to be the Party of the Working Class. I think this idea came from the fact that the Trade Union movement were, for many years, the money behind them. I sometimes wonder whether the modern Trade Unions are really the same as they used to be. However, I digress.

I am old enough to remember the first Labour Government in 1945 under Clement Atlee. They only got in then because they told the men in the forces that they would get them demobbed in quick time after they were elected. That fell by the wayside once Atlee and his cohorts were in power. Nationalisation was a good move as was the start of the NHS and free Education in all schools. Until this came in Grammar Schools used to charge fees like public schools do. It was under Labour that Comprehensive education was started and Hugh Gaitskell who was Chancellor under Wilson introduced prescription charges. Each and every Labour Government has left power leaving the country deep in the red. This is going to happen again at the next election. No-one ever benefits from a Labour Government except the Ministers who are milking the gravy train (sorry for the mixed metaphor).

If the Governemnt were subject to the same limitations as Directors of private industry they would be in jail for misuse of funds and mismanagement of the company.

This is a rather good video of Osborne's slap down speech.

Bravo

Keynsian economics have been proven time and again to simply not work, yet the champagne socialists still hold them dear.

Yet again the nations economics are in total shambles due to this shower and their idiotic dogma
