Leeds v Tranmere

Leeds entertain Tranmere Rovers in a crucial play off spot game.

A point might be good enough in the long run but Leeds know that three points will almost guarantee them a spot in the top six.

Jermaine Beckford starts for Leeds after missing the last three in place of Liam Dickinson whilst Andy Robinson comes in for the suspended Fabian Delph.

Leeds United moved to the very brink of play-off qualification by equalling a 40-year-old record at Elland Road.
A 3-1 victory over Tranmere Rovers earned Leeds their 10th successive home victory, a tally last achieved by a United squad when Don Revie was manager in 1969.

More significantly, it lifted the club to a position from which they are now almost certain to qualify for League One's play-offs, barring a bizarre run of results in the last fortnight of the term.

Jonathan Howson displayed United's intent by driving the ball against a post after only six minutes, and Jermaine Beckford opened the scoring nine minutes later when he latched onto Robert Snodgrass' delightful pass and chipped it over Rovers goalkeeper Danny Coyne.

Neil Kilkenny added a second goal on 26 minutes with a low finish from a tight angle, but Tranmere were given an immediate lifeline when confusion between Sam Sodje and Casper Ankergren saw United's defender nod a header over his keeper and into his own net.

Tranmere had chances to level with Antony Kay and Edrissa Sonko both failing to hit the target from great positions, and it took a sensational save from Ankergren to deny Kay at the start of the second half.

But Rovers' challenge was ended on 56 minutes when a Snodgrass free-kick brushed off Beckford and hit Luciano Becchio before rebounding into the net.

Was a great game, was at it for my birthday and loved every minute.
