Ross & BrandHeard a debate on TV this morning about Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand phoning Andrew Sachs(Manuel in Fawlty Towers)and saying that Brand had slept with Sachs Grandaughter.Mr Sachs is 78 years old and understandably is very upset. The phone call was apparently broadcast on the radio too.
Do you think that they should be sacked?

Too bloody right they should be sacked.
What an appalling incident!
Still, there's nothing that a piece of 4x2 smashed repeatedly into their nasty foul mouths wouldn't sort out!
Pigs...the pair of them!!

I always knew brand would go to far one day, at the end of his days on big brothers little brother he used to make me cringe with his lewd talk and i'm far from a prude.

Best news I've had today. Ross and Brand have been suspended by the BBC. They don't say what these two idiotic balm pots have been suspended by, but their wedding tackle would be a good start. I hope the pair of them realise that the sun doesn't shine any more from their respective backsides - in fact is sounds as if it is about to set. I must say it has taken some time for this action to be taken but better late than never I suppose.

Sorry to disagree here Chrissy, but how would you feel if someone left a message on your ansafone saying he'd had sex with your granddaughter and then the whole lot being broadcast across Canada? I think you might feel differently then.

the granddaughter doesn't look too pure to me, i saw of video of her stripping in public, how does gramps feel about that?
and just because you're 78 years old, doesn't mean you lose your sense of humour does it

Whether the daughter is pure or impure is of no import.
Whether the guy in question is 78 is of no import.
What is of import is the fact that two VERY highly paid "comedians" chose to make such comments at all. They then went on to suggest that he might kill himself and that they could break in to his house and perform a sex act on him while he was asleep. The item was put on air despite the victim asking that it not be broadcast.
These "comedians" are funded by tax payers who are forced to pay a TV licence on pain of imprisonment.
In common with a huge number of said taxpayers, I didn't find this episode particularly funny: I found it grossly offensive and if they'd done it to me then one or both would, by now, be languishing in hospital.

okay, okay calm down... i have obviously hit a sore spot here, but i am entitled to my opinion too and i just gave it based only upon what i heard... i didnt hear anything about breaking into his house and performing a sex act on him, if i had my opinion might have changed... but come on... to debate this in parliament is elevating this to a degree that is not worthy of it... anne just asked if we thought they should be sacked and that's what i was reacting to

Just to be absolutely sure here...it was not debated in parliament. Two MPs commented on it and then the Prime Minister decided he'd join the bandwagon in an attempt to gain kudos from it.
I haven't got a sore spot, I'm not cross in any way, but I would be if that had been perpetrated on me.
And, my little box of Canadian sunshine, you are as entitled to your opinion as are the rest of us.....lol
BTW, send me your phone number but don't worry if you hear heavy breathing down the line.....pmsl

What these two tossers did was gross misconduct, and sacked they should be.
If it was brought up in Parliament and discussed then that is right and proper as the TV Tax is voted on by MP's, and I hate paying it as it is a socialist biased company which supports Labour.
Now in this country it is illegal to make lewd and obscene phone calls and they should be arrested.
What annoys me the BBC can be fined £250,000 by ofcom, errr hang on it isn't their money it is the Tax payer who will pay it, not the perpertrators, how wrong is that.
The licence fee should be scrapped and the BBC should be made independendent.
If someone left a message on my phone like that about my daughters and for all to listen to I would have had them arrested.
It doesn't matter what this girl does for a living, her Grandfather and her did not deserve this to be broadcast over the airwaves.
These guy's are not comedians they are a pair of juvenile idiots and deserve all that is coming their way.
Brand is a disgusting piece of filth and scum in my eyes, and finds it funny to telephone 999 and pretend he has been sexually assaulted using a female voice, he did this the day after a woman was actually assaulted in the town he was doing a gig in, and thought it very funny, hmmmm, suppose thats what smack does to your brain.
IMHO, sooner this idiot is six foot under it will be one less arsehole peddling his filth.

Just heard on the news that Brand has resigned.
I can't see Ross giving up his £18 million contract up that easy though (£6 million a year)

He is suspended on FULL salary. What sort of bloody oranisation is the BBC. They could have cut his salary while he is on suspension.

Hang on a minute here, this was a 'recorded' show - what about the production and editing staff who should and could have pulled the plug. Where's their suspensions? I'm sure that far worse things have ended up on the cutting room floor. And as for the girl involved, hardly the picture of innocence is she - this whole incident will be of vast benefit to her previously unknown career - am sure the I'm a celebrity type offers will start rolling in now.
Yes, Andrew Sachs is a legend, and do feel for him, but sorry folks - I rolled around laughing at todays newspapers when I read that Brand had been coming out with Manuel quotes when bedding this young lady such as 'I know nothing', 'i learn it from a book' and 'que'. I normally think Brand is a tosser and switch the tv off when he is on.
The more the media make of it, the more it is blown out of proportion - and for that arsehole Prime Minister of ours to think it is appropriate to comment on such matters when the country is in financial turmoil, well he should be suspended too.

Well said chimp, got to admit i listened to the interview on you tube this morning and i actually laughed but then iv'e got a sick sense of humour anyhow

Brand: Totally crap 'comic'. I've seen funnier traffic accidents, the guy has the humour of a 10 year old.
Ross: Apparently his 'talent' is worth £6million a year. All I see is a guy with a speech impediment that isn't relly very funny and has no obvious talent to speak of.
If I were the BBC I'd take this opportunity to sack the gits and use the money for something worthwhile, like buying the England games off Setanta.

I detect a certain difference in the opinions here which seem to be related to the age of the people contributing. The older folk tend to hold to the traditional values of consideration and restraint in comedy while the younger members seem to think that ribald and, in this case, extremely insulting, comedy is fine and dandy. There is enough swearing and gratuitous disregard for peoples feelings already on some BBC, and ITV, programmes without letting these two so called comics please themselves what they say or do "on the air". I am all in favour of comedy with risqué comments and some sexual innuendo but Ross and Brand have overstepped even this line. You don't get adverse comments about Billy Connelly, and he swears and tells risqué stories. He doesn't pillory other people and make obscene phone calls and he really is funny.
I don't think anyone wants to go back to the old broadcasting days when everyone spoke with a plum stone in their mouth and dress codes were really restrictive. What we don't want, or at least I don't, is a free for all and anarchy in the stuff which is broadcast with anything goes being the order of the day.

He should be sacked.
He gets that money because he gets 4.2million viewers. That's bugger all tbh.
I've watched his show, not cos of him though, only because of whatever guests are on. In truth I more watch the show despite him than because of him.

As most, if not all you will know, I have an extremely filthy sense of humour.
However, what these two did was not 'humour', it was the product of two rather warped minds.
To even consider making these comments shows a lack of common courtesy and civility.

I've been watching the BBC's 'Have Your Say' section.
I've decided to register and add my two pennorth to the debate:
| I wrote: | For those that are saying the presenters are not at fault as it wasn't a live show, let me just point out that the telephone call WAS live, it was a real call to a real person with real feelings.
To those that say these people are talented; did you honestly find any of this segment in the remotest bit funny?
Both should have been sacked for the phone call alone regardless of airing, and it is right the editor is gone also.
Use the money you save on Ross's wage to buy the England games. |
It is awaiting a moderator to accept it

I managed to get two comments posted on there before the Moderation queue went ballistic.
I strongly suspect they'll let the queue build up and then quietly dump the outstanding comments.
I also sent in a complaint and am waiting for an answer.....I'll be pushing up daisies before tha happens methinks.
|
Bravo

I had to write in as the vast majority of those in favour of Ross are banging on about how it was recorded and thus not their fault the BBC aired it. They fail to see the phone call is the problem and that happened before the BBC had a chance to do anything about it.

I used to really like Jonathon Ross, but the past few years he has degenerated into an absolute arse, an overgrown schoolboy, his interviews generally go downhill very quickly lewd comments and innuendo it is embarrassing and we the license payer are providing the means for this!
His contract should be cancelled and the BBC should not pay this sort of money to anyone in the future, no one is worth that.
Russel Brand, well what can you say, each to their own, but to me a total plonker.
