A documentary tracing the Amaxzxon river from the Andes in Peru to the mouth inn Barzil...absolutely beautiful nad stupendous geography in episode 1 but last night he stopped to stay with some indians pressured by teh oil companies to over etc.
Theses indians purge themselves every moriing by drinking something that makes them vomit...if the wives don't prepare it properly they get beaten. It makes Nescafe look good!!
and he took part in a ceremony to have a vision which would change his life (you know the sort of thing...). It seem that to do this you have to drink some endless amount of liquid from junglle origins and vomit consistently for over an hour, then sleep and dream.

Apart form the unuttterable foulness of it all, who on earth DISCOVERED it? Who would go through all that to find out what it did???

Omg SP that sounds so odd! there are many tribal traditions that make you squirm and wonder why on earth and who on earth thought of these things!
I think the worst I've ever seen were where some sort of African tribe, cut out the females clitorus, and partially sewed up her vagina! All without anaesthetic I might add. This way the woman would get no pleasure out of sex, but the mans pleasure would be heightened by her 'tighter' sewn passage. I mean HOW barbaric!!! Obviously a man thought it up, but they are still practising it in some places. The mind really boggles doesn't it?

Theres been many programmes on that particular "ritual" they often have it done by someone using a bit of like a tin lid with no aneasthetic, it's barbaric.

Jeeze, I have never ever heard of this before, I don't watch a lot of telly is this why? that sounds just terrible, a bit like circumcision with a finger nail and no anaesthetic, won't mention the religion lest I set of another angry torrent at my fishy hide
