The right to die ...Just wondered if anyone watched the special last night on sky....about a man who traveled to Switzerland to be able to commit suicide legally.

I found this so sad and harrowing..to see this man die on T.V.

I don't have the channel it was on so i missed it,but i saw the reports about it on the news and the interview with his wife.
Motor Neurones is a cruel disease,i remember watching a 21 year old lad i knew die with it,so i can fully accept what this man did.
Whether or not it should have been televised i don't know, but peeps had the choice not to watch it i suppose.

If you dont wanna see it on tv dont watch. It was his life and he wanted to end it before he got worse. i see no problems with that .

I watched it. Not seen the end yet (though obviously I know what happens), I sky plussed it, will watch last bit over the weekend.
I can't fault him for what he did. As he put it, 'I have a choice of suffering, then death...or just death'.
He chose death and fair play to him.

Oh agreed....Ive always thought that its inhumane to keep people suffering.
I just thought it was the most saddening thing to watch. He was intelligent, humorous....yet he knew he had to do this, not only for himself but his family.

i was just thinking about this yesterday... it would have been my ex-boss' birthday on dec. 10th and i think about him a lot ... well he was more than just my boss, he was also my friend.. he was just a gem of a guy.... he was 52 years old when he died 3 years ago now... he had pancreatitus and then lung cancer... he ended up shooting himself cause he couldn't take the pain... but the most horrible thing is, when he shot himself, he didn't finish the job... paramedics were called and they took him to hospital where he died.. he probably experienced a lot of severe pain in the end from the gun shot, which is exactly what he was trying to avoid.. and he begged them just to let him die... i still feel sick when i think about what he had to go through... if we had the right to die here we could avoid this kind of thing happening, he could have some easier way, lethal injection or something.. to me it seems the most humane thing to do
