YORKSHIRE Ripper Peter Sutcliffe has been classified low risk and recommended for release from Broadmoor, The Sun can reveal.
The top-security hospital’s doctors have told lawyers representing the Ripper — who murdered 13 women and tried to kill seven others — that he is no longer dangerous.

But an ex cop on the cases said today he was “staggered” at the suggestion Sutcliffe may eventually be released.

Retired Detective Chief Superintendent Chris Gregg, who also worked on high-profile cases such as Wearside Jack, said surviving victims would be “aghast” at the thought.

He said: “Like many people, I was staggered at the suggestion that Peter Sutcliffe could be considered for release.

"It is an affront to common sense if that does ever happen. He killed 13 people and attempted to kill seven others.

"If that doesn’t warrant serving a whole life behind bars I don’t know what does.”

According to a source close to Sutcliffe, the medics will support his bid to get out of Broadmoor.

And if Jack Straw’s Ministry of Justice agrees with their verdict, he will be moved to a medium-secure unit.

That means he would skip the high-security step of the mental hospital process and be given much more freedom.

He would then be allowed on to the streets to begin rehabilitation into society.

The source said: “If Jack Straw rubber-stamps it Peter will be packing his bags.”

The source added that the doctors’ greatest fear is not the risk the Ripper poses to the public, but the risk THEY pose to HIS safety because of enduring anger over his horrific crimes.

The development comes hot on the heels of moves by Sutcliffe’s lawyers to have him declared sane and given a date for total freedom.

The Bradford lorry driver, now 62, mainly targeted prostitutes during a five-year reign of terror starting in the late 1970s.

He butchered his victims using a ball pein hammer, a sharpened screwdriver and a knife.

In my opinion, anybody who signs off saying these people are no longer a danger to society should also do any prison sentence that the person they are releasing ends up doing if they've got it wrong. Then at least we know they are sure of themselves, aren't we?

He should never be allowed out while ever he has breath in his body.
If he is no longer a threat(in mental health terms),he should be moved to a maximum security prison instead of a cushy hospital and serve the rest of his days with other criminals.
I am old enough to remember the fear of women all around here when he was at large.I can remember being afraid to walk from the bus station to my home when i finished work and i can remember the relief when i got in one night and heard it on the news that he had been caught.
I know i didn't live in the usual places he frequented,but i'm only 20 minutes down the motorway and it has since been proven that he was just about 1 mile from my house on at least 1 occasion.

My sentiments exactly Anne, Ian Brady and Myra Hinley, were a heinous pair and in my opinion Peter Sutcliffe is right up there with them and they did'nt get out, well she did but that was because she was dying and he is still inside and i've no doubt he will die inside and rightly so. Peter Sutcliffe might well have been mentaly ill and now be cured but he still did what he did. He should never walk free EVER. Survivors of his atrocities still suffer to this day from the horror of his attacks. By all means move him to a maximum security prison and KEEP HIM THERE TIL HE DIES.
