I must confess to not knowing a lot about classical music There have been numerous times when i have heard a tune & liked it,but havent a clue what its called or who composed it

Same here, took me ages to find out that first one, they play it on Remembrance day, so it sort of makes me think of young soldiers lying dead on some god forsaken battlefield.  That's partly why I started this thread, sort of the better stuff without pretentious gits sticking their oar in

Yes Nimrod is a very moving piece,if i'm not mistaken did they play that at Diana's funeral?
Maybe it was just the tv station that played it in the background!

I've been looking for a tune called Strings for Jasmine.Can't seem to find it anywhere
