Championship club Ipswich Town are leading the race to sign Leeds United target Lee Martin.
The Suffolk outfit are believed to have held talks with Martin after offering Manchester United a seven-figure sum for his signature, and they have moved to the front of the queue of teams tracking the 22-year-old winger.

Martin has been interesting both Leeds and Bristol City but Ipswich are working to take him to Portman Road as they prepare for their first full campaign under manager Roy Keane.

The player's contract with Manchester United does not run out until next summer but he has made it clear that he wishes to leave Old Trafford after failing to break into the Premier League champions' first team on a regular basis.

Leeds have been following the versatile Martin, who can operate on the left side of midfield and can also play in a forward role, and although he hoped to avoid dropping beneath the Championship he would have been willing to consider a move to Elland Road.

League Two outfit Accrington Stanley, meanwhile, are lining up an approach for United goalkeeper Alan Martin.

The Scotland Under-21 international spent last season on loan with Blue Square Premier strugglers Barrow and could be available on a temporary basis again if Leeds choose to replace David Lucas with another experienced keeper.

Accrington assistant manager Jimmy Bell said: "We're looking at him as our number one target."

United have been linked with a move for Darryl Flahavan who was on loan at Leeds at the the end of last term.
